23/8/2018 Social Media AccountsAs of August 2018, I have deleted all of my major social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, GooglePlus, LinkedIn, Tumblr, etc.). I have kept a few accounts whose purpose is the posting of music only (e.g. Soundcloud), and this blog, where I'll post occasional updates of what I'm working on, new music, etc. Among an abundance of reasons for deleting my social accounts, the following three books were instrumental in my final decision.
Deep Work by Cal Newport - “Efforts to deepen your focus will struggle if you don’t simultaneously wean your mind from a dependence on distraction.” 10 Arguments for Deleting Your Social Media Accounts Right Now by Jaron Lanier - “Now everyone who is on social media is getting individualized, continuously adjusted stimuli, without a break, so long as they use their smartphones. What might once have been called advertising must now be understood as continuous behavior modification on a titanic scale.” Walden by Henry David Thoreau - “I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.” Comments are closed.
